1488-07-01:Witness for Plaintiff in William Hawkyns  c.  Margaret Heed
Testifies to having witnessed a future contract between his granddaughter Margaret Heed and William Hawkyns, 31 May 1488. Testifies that for the last four years, Henry Heed has claimed his daughter Margaret was free to marry of her own choosing. Testifies that on 29 May 1488, after the banns had been issued, Margaret Heed came to his house and claimed her father had forced her to marry Hawkyns and that she would never marry him. Testifies that he told Henry Heed that Copwode`s father told him Margaret loved his [Copwode`s] son more than Hawkyns, and that Margaret confirmed this when asked by her father. Testifies that she nevertheless seemed happy with William at the time of the contract despite her prior discontent.
