Beatrice Smyth c. John Crote
London Metropolitan Archives, MS DL/C/A/001/MS0906535r-37r
, Witness for Plaintiff
Testifies that it was common knowledge about eight years before in the parish that Beatrice Smyth intended to have John Crote as her husband, and that she was present when Smyth confirmed her intentions in the presence of her mistress, Elizabeth Abel, and John Crote`s master, the rector of the parish church. Testifies that she heard the rector had impeded the solemnization of Crote and Smyth`s marriage when Crote fell ill, and that she was present when Abel sent Smyth, carrying the pair of linen cloths this witness had given her, to console Crote.
